This week is Valentine's Day ... and an event called "Valent-ICE" in downtown Grand Rapids!

Lots of Grand Rapids residents asked for more cold-weather activities in downtown.  Ice sculpting was one of the features mentioned often.  So this week, "Ice Guru" Randy Finch from Food Network's Ice Brigade will be in downtown GR creating a sculpture voted on by residents.

Here's what's happening for VALENT-ICE!

Wednesday February 12

The design chosen by community vote will be revealed at The GRAM.  "Ice Guru" Randy Finch will carve, chisel, and chip the ice to life.  You can purchase lunch from local vendors.

Thursday February 13

It's Family Ice Day at Rosa Parks Circle ice rink!  Kids 17 years old and under skate FREE all day. Their grown-ups can skate for 1/2 off.  Free hot chocolate is available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Courtesy of Amway.

A professional photographer will be on-hand to take your picture with this year's Valent-ICE sculpture!  The pictures will be posted on the Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. Facebook page by Monday, February 17.

The VALENT-ICE event is sponsored by Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc.

Downtown Grand Rapid Inc.'s Valent-ICE event encourages the public to embrace the winter with a live ice carving Downtown!

The community requested more cold-weather opportunities in the Downtown, and ice sculpting was at the top of that list. We heard your ideas, and now we need to know what you would like to see at a live carving. Vote here to guide "Ice Guru" Randy Finch from the Food Network's Ice Brigade television show in his work of art. Public consensus will determine which masterpiece he will reveal at noon on Feburary 12.
