The Grand Rapids Downtown Market today announced a partnership with Goodwill Industries, which will move Goodwill's Blue Spoon catering operation into the Market Hall.

Goodwill will also open Blue Spoon Soup & Spuds, a new cafe which will serve soup and baked potatoes.

The Downtown Market will serve as Blue Spoon’s main kitchen and preparation space. Ninety percent of revenues from Goodwill’s Blue Spoon catering and its Soup & Spuds retail operations will go toward the Goodwill’s job training and placement programs.

Construction on the Blue Spoon space will begin in mid-March. Soup & Spuds will open to the public in mid-April.

“The Downtown Market offers us a significant increase in visibility for our operations, as well as someplace we can interface with the public and experiment with our offerings,” said Jill Wallace, chief marketing officer for Goodwill.

“The Downtown Market has partnered with Goodwill in the past on their job placement program, and we are thrilled to see them expand in the Market Hall,” said Mimi Fritz, president and CEO of the Downtown Market. “The new soup and potato bar presents some exciting new options for the everyday lunch and dinner crowd.”

Blue Spoon will lease the space currently occupied by Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate. Grocer’s Daughter has chosen not to renew their lease and will aggregate its chocolate production at the company’s Empire, Mich. headquarters. Relish Green Grocer will continue to sell their packaged products, such as chocolate bark and bars.
