I hardly ever pay attention to the end of a story with a dog in it..  Because most of them

usually have an unhappy ending....i.e...the dog dies.  Not this time!

An eight-year old golden retriever took off after her owner was involved in an accident on I-96 Monday.  The dog, nicknamed Emi, was found Tuesday at the Humane Society of Kent County.

The dog's owner, Dr. Ira Engeltjes, lost control of his truck along I-96 near Marne and crashed into a ditch. The dog ran away and Engeltjes, a local vet, did not see where she ran.  ,Many friends and family helped search for Emi after the accident.  Someone suggested to Dr. Engeltjes to check the Humane Society.

Engeltjes said he and his wife, Valerie, were waiting outside the shelter a half hour before it opened. They were afraid to get their hopes up, but the dog was Emi. “She started going wild” when she recognized her family, Engeltjes said.

He still doesn't know who found Emi, but the reunion was emotional.

“Valerie and I just sobbed,” he said. “I didn't realize how attached I was. Now I do.”       The Grand Rapids Press & Mlive.com

When it comes to dogs, I just love a happy ending!
