Last month, we told you about Erhardt Construction's 50th anniversary prize.  They are giving away $45,000 towards a construction project or renovation for a West Michigan not-for-profit organization.  They are also giving away $5,000 cash.

Earlier this week, the five finalists were announced.  Starting Monday, it is up to the public to decide the winner by voting for their favorite.

WZZM tells us about the five finalists:

Camp Roger - Growth and record enrollments are presenting challenges for the camp to provide safer and better experiences in nature for children in West Michigan.  The camp wants to add a rope swing and a fishing dock on their lake front.

Crash's Landing - Devoted to taking at-risk stray cats off the streets of Grand Rapids, providing them with veterinary care, and housing them until they can be adopted out.  Their need is for an additional medical treatment room.

San Juan Diego Academy - A K-8 Catholic School designed to serve the educational needs of immigrant families.  They are in the former Holy Name of Jesus School in Wyoming and the building is in need of repair.  The concrete support columns are cracked and crumbling and need to be reinforced, patched and sealed to prevent further deterioration and help insure the structural integrity of the building.

St. Alphonsus Parish Food and Clothing Pantry - This food pantry serves 700 people a month, giving away 27 tons of food each year.  Due to increasing demand, the parish would like to repurpose part of their former school building into a pantry.  The new pantry will result in a 50% increase in people served and would allow people to shop for their own food.

Women At Risk, International - Fights against human-trafficking and also provides local outreach to at-risk individuals.  They are looking to renovate their 2nd floor which would help them be more prominent in Grand Rapids as a place of refuge.

Any and all of these organizations would be very deserving.  Voting begins Monday and runs through August 17.  The winner will be announced on August 23.
