Dukes of September Releasing Concert Video
The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue has a live concert DVD getting released March 18.
Comprised of William Royce “Boz” Scaggs, Steely Dan‘s Donald Fagen and The Doobie Brothers‘ Michael McDonald, the Dukes of September Rhythm Revue’s release is titled “The Dukes of September Live.” It is being distributed by Savoy Label Group’s 429 Records.
Formed in 2010, The Dukes of September grew out of Fagen’s New York Rock & Soul Revue, which toured from 1989 to 1993 and released a live album in 1991. The New York Rock & Soul Revue also included Phoebe Snow and Walter Becker.
“I love revues like the Dukes,” Fagen said in a statement. “Different singers, all kinds of surprises.
“If the listener’s indifferent to one tune, they’ll dig the next. Plus, we’re a real band. Mike, Boz, the musicians and singers are on stage all night.”
McDonald said: “Having a history with Donald and Boz that has been so meaningful to me personally, makes the experience of stepping on stage with them both all these years later, an especially profound one. They were both a significant part of my musical education and two of the musician/composers I’ve held highest in regard over the years.”
The concert is being aired on PBS’ Great Performances this month.
The revue is a rollicking showcase that focuses not just on well-known hits such as “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Lido Shuffle” and “Takin’ it to the Streets,” but also forays into rock and R&B gems such as “Sweet Soul Music” and “Love T.K.O.” The Dukes of September also delights with chart-topping favorites from the ’60s and ’70s including “Low Down” and “Pretzel Logic”.
