Don Kirschner Dies At 77
Remember Don Kirschner's Rock Concert? The show aired Friday night at midnight in the mid 1970's. I used to stay up late and watch. Long before MTV, this rock show was the hippest thing on the planet. Except for the host, "Don Kirschner". He wasn't very hip at all. He had a nasal whiney voice that all the kids at school used to immitate. Don passed away today at age 77 of heart failure in Boca Raton, Florida.
Don Kirschner was famous before you and I knew his name. He was a big name music publisher and producer responsible for help such artists as Carole King, Neil Diamond, and Neil Sedaka get their start. Kirshner is best known for managing the songwriting talent behind the successful pop music television series The Monkees and later The Archies
Time magazine once dubbed him “The man with the golden ear.”
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheila and his children Ricky and Daryn.
