Well, this is interesting. Maybe not the reality of it, but its depth, breadth and reach.

According to a new Deloitte survey on mobile consumer trends, we -- as in us U.S. consumers -- are becoming more and more obsessed with our electronic devices. Just call it device addiction.

Some of the facts: Nearly 90 percent check their phones in the first hour of being awake and 23 percent look at their devices up to 50 times a day. Wow.

How bad is it? Well, about the phone-checking thing: More than 70 percent check their phones within a half hour of arising.

Nearly 10 percent look at their smartphone more than 100 times a day, nearly a quarter check more than 50 times a day and
almost more than 25 times a day. Three percent report looking at their smartphone more than 200 times a day.

And age doesn't seem to matter. For 18- to 24-year-olds, almost 95 percent check their phones within an hour of waking. For 65- to 75-year-olds, 78 percent look at their smartphone within 60 minutes of arising.

Even with all that connectivity, 55 percent surveyed are interested in a connected-home solution and there's also a lot of interest in the connected car.

In addition, 31 percent of consumers with electronic devices have made mobile payments with it in the past month or so.

Other key findings:
-- Nineteen percent reported streaming TV or movies more frequently this year than in 2013.
-- There was a reported 30 percent growth in streaming music.
-- On a weekly basis, 16 percent streamed TV or movies online and 43 percent streamed music or listened to radio online. Not surprisingly, younger people are driving growth in streaming music.

With device addiction, folks are becoming much savvier and more demanding about prices for devices and service plans.

However, nearly twice as many people deemed camera quality more important than the cost of the device. Go figure.

And, as might be expected, most folks want faster speeds for their mobile devices, just like for cars, planes or checkout counter lines. They don't necessarily, however, want to pay for that speed.
