When you think "people breaking world records," do you think of stuff like swimming across Lake Michigan or sail boating around the world? Or do you think of smaller things like the biggest bubble of gum, eating contests ... or hula-hooping?

Last Friday, Hula Hoopers gathered at Bronco Stadium in Coopersville in an attempt to break the world record for most people dancing with a hula hoop at one time.

They had hoped to have 1,000 people participate, but relatively bad weather meant only about 345 gave it a try. The world record attempt fell short, but another attempt is already in the works. WZZM reports that a school district in Australia holds on to its record for 637 people as of now, but the Coopersville community is determined to try it again another day.
