Grand Rapids Public Schools need help clearing snow from the sidewalks, bus stops and street corners so that students can safely get to school.  District officials have called for a campaign this afternoon so the district can re-open its schools.

Grand Rapids Public Schools have been closed the last two days due to the blizzard, which hit West Michigan Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The safety and security of our community's children must be a top priority," said Larry Johnson, executive director of public safety. "As a community, we all have a responsibility to ensure that students are getting safely to and from school. We need to make sure that students are not forced into a situation where they need to choose between walking in the street versus a snow covered sidewalk."

GRPS is also asking individuals to report any streets with designated bus stops that are not clear by calling the district at 616-819-2000.
