Bill Cosby Plots Return to TV with New NBC Sitcom [Video]
Just when you thought comedy icon Bill Cosby had retired, in spite of his recent “Far from Finished” stand-up (or sit-down) special on Comedy Central, the cultural icon and pudding magnate is at it again. The 76 year-old Cosby will return to NBC decades after ‘The Cosby Show’ for a new original family sitcom, to both star in and produce.
Deadline first broke news of the surprising prospect for Cosby, which will take the form of a half-hour family comedy, co-produced with longtime partner Tom Werner. Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but sources say the new Cosby series will star the comedian as the patriarch of a multi-generational family in order to showcase his take on marriage and parenting.
The outlet also points to a November interview with Cosby from YahooTV, wherein the aging comedian pointed out his interest in a possible TV return down the line. Hoping to reach a wide audience, Cosby suggested of his next TV sitcom that ““They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes. Warmth and forgiveness.”
There can be no denying that NBC’s most recent star attractions haven’t panned out as well as they’d hoped, Michael J. Fox‘s ‘The Michael J. Fox‘ show floundering in the ratings in spite of its sentimental appeal. Could Bill Cosby’s TV return revitalize the network, as it once had the sitcom genre itself? Tell us what you’d want to see from Bill Cosby on NBC again in the comments, after the clip from his most recent special!
