Carrie Fisher’s Obituary Request Was Typically Witty and Wonderful
Today we mourn the loss of Carrie Fisher: Iconic actor, talented author, brilliant script doctor and, most of all, an incomparable force to be reckoned with. There are so many great adjectives you could use to describe Fisher: Uncompromising, unapologetic, fierce, witty, relatable, real, honest. She took all of those qualities and put them to work in her books — from memoirs to novels, Fisher had a knack for telling poignant and painful stories with wit and wisdom. Writing a worthy obituary for one of the best and boldest women on this planet or any other is surely an impossible task…so it’s a good thing that the perfect obit basically already exists, and unsurprisingly, Fisher came up with it herself.
‘Harry Potter’ Movies (Yes, All of Them) Heading to IMAX for One Week Only
We’ll be returning to J.K. Rowling’s magical world of wizards this November with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and to help get you in the proper spirit, Warner Bros. is re-releasing all eight of the Harry Potter films — in IMAX, no less. There is a catch, of course: The films will only screen for one week, so if you want to see Mr. Potter & Co. on the very-very-big screen, you might want to clear your calendar.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ Concept Art Offers First Look at Live-Action Lumiere and Cogsworth
Back in May, Disney released the first teaser trailer for their live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and although it was a rather lovely homage to the teaser for the classic animated version, it’s the only real preview we’ve had for the upcoming film. While we anxiously await the full official trailer, new concept art has debuted online that offers our first look at Lumiere and Cogsworth, along with a behind-the-scenes image of Gaston’s famous musical sequence.
‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Reveals First Look at LEGO Joker and LEGO Robin
The first teaser for The LEGO Batman Movie was appropriately Bat-heavy and even more delightful than we could have imagined. And while Will Arnett’s narcissistic Dark Knight probably doesn’t care too much about his co-stars, we’ve been anxious to see what some of Batman’s other famous characters will look like in the upcoming LEGO Movie spinoff. Thankfully, the wait is over.
‘Indiana Jones’ Might Be Getting the ‘Star Wars’ Treatment From Disney
When Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the rights to distribute Indiana Jones, rumors began circulating about the studios’ intentions to reboot the franchise and cast a younger actor in Harrison Ford’s iconic role. That’s not the case, however, as Ford is reuniting with Steven Spielberg for Indiana Jones 5, while recent comments from studio chief Bob Iger suggested that there are still plans to reboot Indy sometime in the near future. As it turns out, those plans may be a bit bigger than Iger implied.
Alicia Vikander’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Gets a Release Date
Of the many reboots in the works, the new Tomb Raider movie is one of the more interesting projects currently in development — and one of the few with some actual potential. Starring Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander and directed by The Wave’s Roar Uthaug (who has the coolest name ever), Tomb Raider seems like the rare reboot that might actually be a good idea. And we won’t have to wait too long to find out if that’s the case, as Warner Bros. has officially set a release date.
‘The Jungle Book’ Images Reveal Astonishing VFX Transformations
Although it’s grouped in with Disney’s recent slate of live-action remakes, The Jungle Book is made up almost entirely of CGI, with young Neel Sethi’s Mowgli serving as the only substantial “live-action” element. The studio has released a new series of photos that showcase the insane amount of work that went into the film’s impressive visual effects, and it might make you do a double-take.
First Look at ‘Piper’ Promises Another Unbearably Adorable Pixar Short
With another new Pixar movie comes the promise of another new Pixar short film, and their latest effort looks as ridiculously adorable and heart-melting as you could possibly hope. It also looks way cuter than Lava — not that it would take much for Pixar to deliver something better than Lava (and good luck getting that song out of your head now). The company has debuted the first image from Piper, the new short film that will probably make your heart grow three sizes when it premieres before Finding Dory.
Yes, Netflix’s Film Catalog Has Gotten Much Smaller, And It Is Frustrating
With whatever insanity seems to be going on at Warner Bros., today doesn’t seem so good for the film industry. At least we get to see the first teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story tomorrow, but until then, here’s some more disappointing news for you, this time from your ol’ reliable streaming pal Netflix.
Yes, That ‘MacGyver’ Movie Is Also Still in Development
This week CBS announced plans for a MacGyver reboot TV show, featuring a younger version of the character portrayed by Richard Dean Anderson on the classic series. James Wan — who was previously attached to direct a MacGyver film — will direct the pilot, but just in case that doesn’t work out, Lionsgate has announced that they’re (still) developing a MacGyver movie.
‘Eddie the Eagle’ Super Bowl Spot Features Glowing Endorsements From NFL Players
Eddie the Eagle looks like it could be this generation's Cool Runnings, maybe, sort of — anyway, it looks charming as all get-out thanks to Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman, two actors who have charisma just seeping out of their pores. Although it's not a huge blockbuster movie with superheroes, it is a heartwarming sports dramedy, which makes Eddie the Eagle's new ad debuting during the Super Bowl sort of a no-brainer.
Christian Bale Exits Michael Mann’s ‘Ferrari’ Movie Over Weight Gain Demands
Christian Bale has become something of a pro when it comes to transforming his body for movie roles, which makes his decision to exit Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic due to “health concerns” somewhat shocking. When you can’t get Bale, of all people, to reshape his body for your film, perhaps you’re asking just a little too much. Or maybe “flabby” is one body shape Christian Bale just can’t get down with, aesthetically.
