Andy Rent

Starting out as a weatherman/TV-Radio host for TV8 in the 70's, Andy also played "Captain Woody" on the TV8 afternoon kids show, and probably is the most recognized personality in the West Michigan area having been on radio and TV for the better part of three decades. Andy is originally a "Hoosier" from Muncie, Indiana and always wanted to be in “show biz”. After graduating from Ball State University, Andy stayed in Indiana, working in radio and TV in Richmond, Muncie and Indianapolis. He moved to Grand Rapids to work at WOOD-TV where he met his wife Kathy. Andy is deeply involved in the Grand Rapids and West Michigan community. He has served on the board of directors of the Metropolitan YMCA, and Easter Seals-Michigan. He also assists the Salvation Army, DeGage Ministries, JDRF, Disability Advocates, Hope Network, and various other non-profit organizations. Interests: I love golf, travel, reading, dining out, theater and movies. And, of course my children and grand children. Andy and his wife Kathy have 7 children and 8 grandchildren. They have a busy life. Music: I love all kinds - especially jazz, blues, and classical, rock and pop hits. The best part about my job: The ability to make a difference in the community.

The Boatwright Opens Tonight at Civic Theatre [Audio]

 

Bo Wilson, playwright of The Boatwright, and in town for final rehearsals and opening night of his award winning play at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, says he hopes audiences walk away from the play exclaiming what a wonderful night at the theater, and possibly find a piece of themselves in the deeply rich characters.

John Mellencamp Announces ‘Plain Spoken’ Tour 2015 Will Land in Grand Rapids

John Mellencamp announced dates for his upcoming Plain Spoken tour beginning in January 2015 throughout the summer. “The Voice of the Heartland” will play 80 shows including a stop here in Grand Rapids at DeVos Performance Hall on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:30 PM. The special guest is Carlene Carter.

Grand Rapids Public Museum Hosts Movie Premier in October

The Grand Rapids Public Museum announced that on Thursday, October 16, 2014, the Museum will be the host venue for the world premiere of the new film “Pirate’s Code: The Adventures of Mickey Matson.” The film, produced by 10West Studios and EMC Productions and filmed in Manistee and Muskegon, will be distributed domestically by Pure Flix Entertainment and internationally by The Highland Film Group of Los Angeles. The movie premiere will be a fundraiser for the Grand Rapids Public Museum, and will kick off the institutions month-long celebration of their 160th Anniversary and 20th year at the Van Andel Museum Center.

’9/11 Never Forget’ Mobile Exhibit at Ford Presidential Museum This Week

Grand Rapids will host the “9/11 Never Forget” mobile exhibit today through Thursday,  September 9-11, at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Everyone is encouraged to join alongside GR Police and Fire Departments, Rolling Thunder motorcyclists, The Patriot Guard and Boy Scouts of America to greet the arrival of the exhibit at the Ford Museum. It will arrive around 5:30 this evening.
