Last year, ArtPrize added juried awards to the art competition.

The first step to awarding the juried prizes came tonight with the announcement of the 2013 ArtPrize Juried Awards Shortlist.

The juried awards cover 5 different categories: 2D, 3D, time-based, urban space, and venue.  The winner of each category will take home $20,000.  The jurors will also award $100,000 to a Grand Prize winner.

Tonight's event was held at The HUB on Sheldon.

This year's finalists are:

2D

  • "Tropical Migrants" by Alexis Rockman at Grand Rapids Art Museum
  • "Europa and the Flying Fish" by Kyle Staver at Grand Rapids Brewing Company
  • "Three and Four: Red, Yellow, & Black" by Peter Crow at Cathedral Square
  • "Series 28 Untitled #1" by Mary Rousseaux at DeVos Place
  • "Rick Beerhorst Painting" by Rick Beerhorst at DeVos Place

3D

  • "Watching" by Daniel Arsham at Frederik Meijer Gardens
  • "Ecosystem" by Carlos Bunga at SiTE:LAB
  • "Through The Skies For You" by Cooley/Lewis at Kendall College
  • "The World's an Untranslatable Language II" by Charles Matson Lume at Kendall College
  • "The Unfounded Future of the Untold" by Julie Schenkelberg at SiTE:LAB

Time-based

  • "Angle of Repose" by Dance in the Annex at SiTE:LAB
  • "Sonnet 27" by Arthur Liou at SiTE:LAB
  • "The Last Post" by Shahzia Sikander at Grand Rapids Art Museum
  • "Whispers of the Prairie" by Deanna Morse at Grand Rapids Art Museum
