You may know that each Wednesday here on The River is "Wet Nose Wednesday" where we highlight furry, feathered or scaled critters that are up for adoption at Humane Society Of West Michigan.

So I wanted to take a minute and share a "heads up" in an effort to ensure that your money stays here in West Michigan.  This is from an press release email I received earlier this week:

Lately, you may have seen billboards, news ads and direct mailings from Michigan Humane Society.  Humane Society of West Michigan is fully supportive of the great work that Michigan Humane Society does on the east side of the state, especially in the Detroit area.

However, we want you, our donors and friends, to be aware that funds given to Michigan Humane Society will help animals in the Detroit area and not here in West Michigan.  If you want to make the biggest impact, donate locally to Humane Society of West Michigan to help save the thousands of animals that need your help right here, in your own community.

Humane Society of West Michigan is 100% donor funded - we receive no funding from the government or national animal welfare organizations.  We rely on the donations of our community to help the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year.

To donate to the animals at Humane Society of West Michigan - please visit www.hswestmi.org or contact Nicole Cook, HSWM Development, at 616-791-8089 or ncook@hswestmi.org.
