Yeah we know most places are closed today, but, what can you do on a snow day especially when you have kids? Well here are a few ideas.

Parents who work are really not fans of snow days but we all know that kids love them. For you parents who are at home with the kids on a snow day, this could be a chance to make some long last memories with them.

A day like today could be a great day to create a snow day tradition. Once the kids homework is done, below is a list of ideas on what simple snow day traditions you and your child can make together:

  • Cook a special meal together.
  • Perhaps, break out the fancy plates and eat in the dining room for once.
  • Skip the above and just order out (although that sucks for the delivery driver).
  • Let the kids build a pillow fort.
  • Watch a favorite movie together.
  • One of my favorites, bake some cookies together.
  • Hey you have that fireplace, great chance to fire it up.
  • Play some board games.
  • Visit the neighbors or have them over.
  • Play in the snow.
  • Go sledding.
  • Shovel snow together.
  • Make some snow angels.
  • Build a snowman.
  • Bring in and freeze a snowball.
  • If you spend anytime outside, it will be nice to warm up inside with some hot chocolate.

Honestly, its already a win for kids just for school to be cancelled but also it doesn't take much to make a snow day a special one.

I learned there are some snow day superstitions. I'm not sure where they came from and but here are some fun ways kids can actually "make" a snow day happen:

  • A Spoon under the bed
  • Where PJ's inside out
  • Place an ice cube in the toilet

Kids may not like this idea as much as you but why not put the kids to work? Especially if you work from home, have the kids help out with something simple. It will help you and make the kids feel important. Well...unless their too old and wise to your ways.

This also could be a good time to clear the clutter and have the kids clean their closets for things they have out grown and you possibly donate and save for a garage sale.

No matter what you do on a snow, just make sure and include the kids...it will be fun for you both.
