Soon the rules on recreational marijuana will be set in place and the vote on acquiring a license to grow, process or sell recreational weed will be next month.

According to WOOD, Grand Rapids, Michigan, hope to begin giving out licenses for recreational pot operations by next spring.

Rules on medical marijuana will be used as a starting point for recreational weed to be regulated by communities in Michigan by November 1.

The city commission will vote October 8 regarding licensing. If passed it will still take another six months before the city will approve licenses.

Grand Rapids planning director, Kristin Turkelson said, "even though we would require a license for recreational, we don't have local land use that authorizes recreation marijuana use types. We would use the six months to engage in a community discussion about what regulations would need to be in place for recreational marijuana facilities."
