The spotted lanternfly threatens to invade Michigan, poses a serious threat to Michigan apple crop and agriculture across the board.

The spotted lanternfly has now been spotted in Wayne, Monroe, and Oakland counties in Southwest Michigan in 2024.

For the past few years, State of Michigan officials have warned residents about a colorful insect that that damages fruit, hops, and hardwood trees. Now, national health experts are backing that up, saying this pest should be killed on sight.

The spotted lanternfly can suck sap from the stems and leaves of more than 70 plants and crops including grapes, apples, hops, walnuts and other hardwood trees.
