Congratulations to Opera Grand Rapids. They received word that their June production of “The Student Prince” was recently nominated for five awards by Broadway World Detroit, a leading resource for news on Broadway, theatre, and entertainment.
Opera Grand Rapids 2016-2017 season certainly features an eclectic mix. There will be two fully-staged operas, a Vocal Arts Series of intimate operatic concerts, and diverse programming aimed to entice a variety of audiences.

Opera Grand Rapids’ Artistic Director Robert Lyall announced he will resign following next month’s production of Britten’s “Noah’s Flood” after a 26-year tenure. Lyall was named General and Artistic Director of the New Orleans Opera Association (NOOA) in December of 1998, and he has since retained positions with both NOOA and Opera Grand Rapids. The annual Collegiate Vocal Competition of Opera Grand Rapids has been extremely competitive. A record number of students entered the Vocal Competition and only nine students though advanced to the Final Round Concert, slated for Sunday, April 14, at the Betty Van Andel Opera Center.
