National Weather Service Grand Rapids

Well, finally our Fox17 meteorologists are forecasting what we have been waiting for, even better weather than this past weekend.

Above-average precipitation is on the way for Michigan this winter.

Beginning on Monday, February 14th, the radar located at the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids will be down for two weeks for maintenance.

It was the storm that everyone remembers -- "The Blizzard of '78". Time Magazine ranked the storm in their "Top 10 Big, Bad Blizzards".

This weekend the weather will start to cool down and we "spring forward" with our clocks.

Spring doesn't officially arrive until Saturday, March 20th at 5:37 am, but it looks like the more spring-like weather will be sticking around prior to that.

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the "Blizzard of '78"! What were you doing back in 1978? If you were living in Michigan at the time, you were probably doing a lot of snow shoveling. This storm was one of the biggest snow storms to every hit this area. A low-pressure system moving from the Gulf Coast met with two other low-pressure systems, one from the Southwest and one from Canada, to create one of the worst snowstorms the Midwest has ever seen.
