A mild start to winter in West Michigan meant a delay in skiing season - well, that's about to change!

The warmer December weather is being enjoyed by many in West Michigan, but ski resorts in the area want the colder temperatures to return.

A few weeks ago we went through the 15 things that anyone who lives in Grand Rapids should do or try at least once. Obviously, we couldn't just stop at 15 considering there's so much to do in this awesome city! So here are 15 MORE things all Grand Rapidians should do/try at least once...

Cannonsburg Ski Area had hoped to open over New Year's weekend, but the weather was not fully cooperative. Cannonsburg's latest estimate is that they will open this Tuesday or Wednesday.

Snow lovers are ready to head outdoors, but the weather hasn't cooperated. Cannonsburg Ski Area is doing everything they can to speed up the process.

Hard to believe that this is the fifth year of creative sleds made out of cardboard either crashing and burning or making it to the finish line triumphantly at Cannonsburg Ski Area in Belmont. Whether you crash and burn, it's time to start grabbing the cardboard and tape and making your cardboard bobsled for the fifth annual Cardboard Bobsled Derby!

Not to be outdone by Mother Nature, Cannonsburg Ski Area in Belmont has begun making snow too.

Today's Cardboard Bobsled event at Cannonsburg was something I've been looking forward to for quite a while now!  What could be more fun than a bunch of people out on a hill, building bobsleds from cardboard and duct tape, not caring if the thing really held up on the way down the slope? 28 is a magic number for West Michigan skiers. When temperatures are 28 or below, it's time for the snow guns to get to work. Snowmaking started on Monday, December 10, at Cannonsburg Ski Area in Belmont.
