Billboard has released its list of top 40 girl group songs of all time. It isn't subjective. It's based on the songs' performances on the charts -- and is led by a disco hit from 38 years ago.

With the top grossing tour of the year and a No. 1 Billboard 200 album ("Midnight Memories"), One Direction claimed honors as Billboard's 2014 Artist of the Year. One Direction's "Midnight Memories" included the hit "Story of My Life." The English-Irish group includes Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson.

No surprise here, but the "Frozen" soundtrack from Walt Disney Records was ranked the No. 1 best-selling album on the 2014 year-end Billboard 200 chart. It is the first movie soundtrack to reach No. 1 on the year-end chart since "Titanic" in 1998 and is the first Disney soundtrack to top the chart since "Mary Poppins" in 1965, according to Billboard.

Tony Bennett's and Lady Gaga's duet album, "Cheek To Cheek," debuted at no. 1 this week on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album also hit No. 1 on the jazz and traditional album charts. Released Sept. 23 on Streamline/Columbia/Interscope Records, "Cheek To Cheek" features classic jazz standards sung by Gaga and Bennett in vocal duets and solo performances.

Lionel Richie, currently touring the U.S. and Canada, will be honored for his skills as a live performer at this year's Billboard Touring Awards. Lionel will receive Billboard's Legend of Live Award at the event, which takes place Nov. 20 in New York.

They keep figuring out ways to measure musical and other influences by artists at Billboard. It's all about data folks. Did they intend to be clever?  Did they intend to shock?  Did they just want to get noticed?  Maybe all three.  The story did get them some free national publicity, but I'm not sure this is the publicity that you really want for your restaurant...
