Officials have shut down the south beach in South Haven Friday afternoon after two water rescues happened within the same hour according to WOODTV.

Red Flags were flying at the beach already when South Haven Area Emergency Services were called to rescue an 18-year-old guy who was caught in a riptide and he was swimming along the pier.  WOODTV says a second simmer was rescued by a good Samaritan.

As WOODTV points out, the beaches are extra packed because of the current heatwave, and even with the red flags flying, there were still people in the water, which is why they decided to shut down the beach area.
