JCPenney Announces Store Closures – Is Michigan on the List?
JCPenney has announced plans to shutter more than half a dozen stores by the middle of this year. The targeted stores are primarily in malls and town centers.
JCPenney Slowly Closes Locations
The company reached its peak in 2002, operating 1,075 retail stores in all 50 states. By 2020, that number had shrunk to 846. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May of that year, citing the pandemic as a source for its woes, according to Forbes.
The chain emerged from bankruptcy in December 2020.
Random Fact: (Actually, I call it a sad fact) The JCPenney catalog was discontinued way back in 2009. Those of us of a certain age certainly remember looking through the iconic catalog for toys and other items.

JCPenney Will Close Stores in 2025
MSN confirms that JCPenney plans to shutter eight stores by mid 2025.
"The decision to close a store is never an easy one. These closures may be driven by expiring lease agreements, market changes, or other factors," a company spokesman said.
As of today, these stores are expected to be closed within the next few months.
