Macy's is pulling the plug on 66 more stores in 2025, and while we knew some of those would be in Michigan, we now know how many will have their "Final Clearance Sale." Translation: They're ditching malls for glitzier, more profitable ventures while the rest of us hunt for bargains. I'm afraid we are moving closer and closer to a time when brick-and-mortar stores disappear altogether, taking with them their dressing rooms and my hopes of not having to return something that doesn't fit.
Michigan Stores Saying Their Final Goodbyes
Here's the list of Macy's stores shutting down in Michigan in 2025, according to Axios:
- Flint: Genessee Valley Center
- Sterling Heights: Lakeside Mall
- Traverse City: Grand Traverse Mall
- Troy: Oakland Mall
Liquidation sales will kick off in January and run for 8-12 weeks, according to the US Sun, so get ready for a clearance frenzy before closing their doors in March.
What It Means for Michigan
The closures hit Michigan communities hard, leaving another vacant retail space that could become everything from a Planet Fitness to a Spirit Halloween. While Macy's leans into high-end brands and fewer physical locations, Michiganders are left wondering: who's stepping in to fill all of these voids?
For now, savor the last bargains, Michigan. It's goodbye to perfume counters and escalator rides—hello to a future where your shopping is done online, with no fitting room.
