Michigan’s Own Woody the Groundhog Might Be the Worst at Predicting Winter
When it comes to Groundhog's Day there is one rodent in America who is the star of the show, Pennsyvania's own Punxsutawney Phil. He's the go-to source for whether spring is going to stay or go every February 2nd.
But, according to a new list he's one of the least accurate rodents in America. Unfortunately, there's only one rodent meteorologist that has a worse track record: Michigan's own Woody the Groundhog.

According to a new list of the most accurate animal meteorologists by the National Weather Service, we're seeing exactly which animals know what's going on. The most accurate? Staten Island Chuck, who boasted an impressive 85% accuracy during his lifetime.
But, at the bottom of the rodent list, came Woody, with her not so impressive 35% accuracy. She's rated the second worst meteorologist in America, only above a turtle named Mojave Max in New Mexico.
I argue it's not fair to say that Woody isn't accurate- Instead, we should consider that she's just predicting the weather for her home state of Michigan. After all, Winter in Michigan never ends before May, no matter what those weird groundhog cultists in Pennsylvania say.
So, how would you expect a groundhog who sees snow from November until April at best, to say that spring is coming anytime soon in early February? You'd think she was insane if she went along with the national trend every year.
So, cut Woody some slack. She's just cold and trying her best to be realistic about her surroundings.
