Could West Michigan See Snow on Halloween?
I don't put a lot of stock into old wives' tales, but this one about the weather, specifically when the first snow of the season falls, got me thinking.
This particular piece of weather lore was recently posted to Facebook by Brian Gotter, a retired meteorologist in Wisconsin.

According to Brian (and the Farmer's Almanac), we probably won't see snow on Halloween in West Michigan, but there IS a chance.
Understanding the Six-Week Snowfall Lore
The first snowfall comes six weeks after the last thunderstorm in September.
What This Means for West Michigan's First Snowfall
After storms rolled through the area on Saturday, September 20, I started to get a little nervous. While that wouldn't mean we'd have a cold, snowy night for trick-or-treating, it did indicate that we could see snow the following day.

Luckily? West Michigan saw thunderstorms roll through the area again on the evening of Tuesday, September 23. There isn't any rain in the forecast now through September 30, so it appears that the Tuesday night storm will be the last one that pops up in the area before the month ends.
If the lore holds true, that means that West Michigan could see its first snowfall on November 4 (which is still too early for me, personally, but it's better than snow in October).
Weather Lore Associated With September
There is some additional weather lore associated with September that could bode well for Michiganders in the coming year. The Farmer's Almanac tells us that if we have thunder any time in September, the following year's grain and fruit crops will be good.
