
Walker Police Department Asking People to Stop Doing This Weird Thing at Schools
Hey Michiganders, can we stop being weird?
It's gotten to the point where a police department in West Michigan has had to put out a statement asking us to stop doing this weird thing at schools.

I get it - it's winter in Michigan, and a lot of our favorite outdoor activity areas are closed - but the grounds of a school are not where you should be spending your leisure time.
Especially not during school hours.
It's gotten so bad that the Walker Police Department put out an ask on Friday, February, 21, imploring people in the community to stay off of school grounds during school hours.

Now, I would think that this would be common sense since you can't go INTO a school during school hours unless you're buzzed in and have a valid reason to be there. But it turns out that many people think that they can just walk around on or cut through school property whenever they feel like it.
In most, if not all towns and cities in Michigan, it's actually illegal to be in a school or on school property during school hours unless you have a valid reason to do so.

Walker PD highlighted one of the major reasons why you should refrain from doing this, saying,
We understand the need to walk the dog & get your steps in, but short cuts across school property can create some feelings of uneasiness.
With the way things are in the world today, the last thing that schools need to be worrying about is who is on their property that shouldn't be while class is in session or kids are at recess.
