How Does Michigan Count Votes?
After polls close in Michigan at 8 p.m. on Election Day, the vote counting process begins, overseen by election administrators and inspectors.
- Election inspectors first ensure that the number of ballots matches the number of voters who cast votes.
- Votes are then tabulated using electronic voting machines or optical scan systems.
- Starting this year, absentee ballot counting boards can pre-process absentee ballots before polls close, allowing some jurisdictions to report partial results shortly after 8 p.m.
- The votes then have to be reported and certification. If a statewide race is within 2,000 votes, a recount occurs automatically or can be requested within 48 hours.
Michiganders Share Their Interesting Write In Picks For President
My social media feed has been nothing but political.
I've seen so many I Voted stickers and I assume most of them voted for either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris for president.
But I also saw some interesting write in picks.
Starting out someone thought that a great pick for President would be legendary Michigan State Basketball coach Tom Izzo.
The other write in name for president that I'm sure many in Michigan would pick is Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
As we wait for the votes to be calculated It's safe to say that neither of those great coaches are going to be our next President, But I believe whoever is our next President could learn a lot from these two outstanding men.
