How can I get help with Winter Heating bills in Michigan?

The purpose of the Weatherization program in Michigan is to reduce energy bills and leave more money in your pockets for life's other necessities. In a recent note to residents Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the average Michigan resident can save nearly $300 annually with the program:

I want to make sure you know about the Weatherization Assistance Program, which reduces household energy costs by an average of $283 per year. Getting your home weatherized will reduce energy costs, allowing you to spend more money on food, clothing, or other critical household needs.

Who can qualify for Weatherization before Michigan's Winter?

  • Can be owner or renter
  • Income eligibility is up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level or $36,620 for a household of two or $55,500 for a household of four
  • Cannot have been previously weatherized by this program after September 1994
