The reason for this is to ensure your mailbox can handle another Michigan winter.
By taking some simple steps you can give your mailbox the best chance possible to handle any snow and icy weather thrown its way.
Check for Stability: By shaking your mailbox, you test how secure it is. If it wobbles or moves it's a sign that the post is loose, rotted, or the box itself is not tightly secured.
The Force of Thrown Snow: When snowplows clear the road, the weight and force of the snow and ice being thrown off the blade can be enough to knock down or destroy a loose or unstable mailbox.
Preventive Maintenance: There are several things you can do to try and make sure your mailbox is secure and can make it through another winter in Michigan.
- Tighten any loose screws
- Replacing old or rotten posts.
- Ensuring the box is securely attached to the post.
