Why Does Michigan Stand Alone in Using the Term “Party Store”?

Sometimes, if you grow up in a certain place, you don't realize that you do things differently than everyone else.

In Michigan, one thing that sets us apart from the rest of the country is what we call a “party store.”

In other states, when people hear "party store," they are likely to think of a place like Party City, where you can buy party supplies such as balloons, plates, napkins, and more.

But in Michigan, a party store is something different.

What Is Typically Found In A Party Store?

If you step foot into a party store, you're likely to find many things, including:

• Alcohol: Beer, liquor, and mixers
• Cigarettes
• Lottery Tickets
• Snack Food
• Some Groceries (Usually just the basics like Milk, Cheese etc.)

I personally like the name party store but I can see how it might be confusing for people in other states.

I don't want to see party stores disappear.

And I might get some hate for this, but I think our neighbors to the south in Ohio actually have something we might want to consider doing, Drive-Thru Convenience Store.

It pretty much has the same things as a party store in Michigan but you don't even get out of your car, you simply wait your turn and pull up inside.

I remember the first time I saw this when we visited my Grandma in Ohio and wondered why we don't have them in Michigan.

Party stores are just one of many cool things that Michigan is known for
