Michigan Middle School Teacher Celebrates 50 Years in the Classroom
Fifty years is a long time to be doing anything, whether it's something you love or something you dislike.
That's why it's so remarkable that Larry DeBoer, who teaches seventh-grade social studies at FHCMS in Ada, is celebrating 50 years in the classroom.
Why Did Larry DeBoer Want to Become a Teacher?
DeBoer told Wood TV that his journey to becoming a teacher began with his desire to be a coach.
That decision has positively impacted the lives of thousands at FHCMS and throughout West Michigan.
One aspect that truly impresses me about Mr. DeBoer is that he requires his students to volunteer, telling Wood TV:
“We are an advantaged society here in Forest Hills, and because of that, we have an avenue and a responsibility to share what we have with others."
The world needs more teachers like Mr. DeBoer.
The kind of people who dedicate themselves to their students, schools, and communities leave a lasting impact well beyond the classroom.
Is This the Last Year for Mr. DeBoer?
After 50 years of teaching, one might assume Mr. DeBoer would retire soon, but that is not his plan.
As long as he remains healthy and continues to love teaching, he won’t be leaving anytime soon.
