A First Look Inside the Acrisure Amphitheater: Grand Rapids’ Next Big Stage
I finally got the chance to step inside the Acrisure Amphitheater this week, and let me just say, it’s already shaping up to be one of the most jaw-dropping venues in Michigan.
Sitting right on the Grand River, it’s hard not to imagine what it’s going to feel like next spring when the first notes of live music echo through the space.
Construction crews have been working non-stop to make sure the amphitheater is ready to welcome fans by opening day. Pioneer Construction Project Manager Eric Olson led our hard hat tour, guiding us through the massive project.
He didn’t give away details about what’s ahead of schedule or still in progress, but he did tell us one interesting thing: the seats are actually one of the very last features they’ll be putting in.
(It makes sense, but it looks so weird without them!)
In front of the stage will be an open pit area that may occasionally allow chairs.
Walking through, the layout blew me away. The main seating area sits under a sleek awning with carefully placed pillars along the sides (not the middle) so no one’s view is blocked.
And even from the very back of the venue, whether you’re sitting or standing on the finished lawn, the stage view is crystal clear.
It’s a design detail that makes this place feel like it was built with every fan in mind, even if you’re sitting in the ‘cheap seats’. So, 12,000 people will have a change to see the same amazing show- most venues can't promise that.
Getting to your seat will also be a breeze. There are multiple entrances, including one that flows right in from the riverfront.
And then there are the extras. A dedicated VIP section. A spacious retail area that will make grabbing merch way less of a hassle.
Plus, one of the features that stuck with me most: the fully enclosed artist loading area. It means performers can come and go without having to cross paths with the public, which not only protects privacy but also makes the venue one of the safest in the country.
Funding for the venture is at 95% completion, but you can still make a donation to bring this beautiful venue to life. And, if you donate $1000 your name will remain in the venue permanantly, while a $2500 or more donation will get you access to buy tickets to every show for the first year.
It’s not every day you get to watch a world-class amphitheater come together piece by piece, but after this tour, I can say with confidence: this will be a “one of one” concert experience for Grand Rapids. Next spring can’t come fast enough.
