Skygazers in Michigan will get a real treat as the moon rises early next week.

Now, I will fully admit that I am not a person who follows celestial happenings closely. Just a few weeks ago, when my friend was in a weird mood, I said to him, "There's... some sort of moon?" But when I saw that this was happening next week, I had to look into it.

What is a Flower Moon?

Full Flower Moon Will Rise Over Michigan May 12

That magic moon will rise in Michigan (and everywhere, really) on Monday, May 12, 2025. According to Forbes, the best time to view the moon is when it's rising over the horizon. I went to the experts on all things stars, moons, and outside things, The Farmer's Almanac, to see when that might be here in Michigan. It appears that the moon will rise here in the Mitten State around 9:27 p.m.

If you happen to miss it at peak viewing time, that's okay. Because the moon is, well, the moon, it'll appear to be full the night before and the night after, as well.

Best Way to View the Flower Moon in Michigan

Because it's best viewed as it rises over the horizon, it's also best for you to have a clear view of the horizon. As with most nighttime sky gazing, it'll appear brighter and more vibrant if you are in an area with little to no light pollution.
