Bob’s Bar Launches Happy Hour to Ease Government Shutdown Blues
The United States federal government shutdown began at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 after Congress failed to pass a continuing resolution to extend funding beyond the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2025.

Now three weeks in, it's become the second longest government shutdown in U.S. history and doesn't show any signs of coming to an end.

I wish that this shutdown would end immediately, because while the politicians are repeating the same talking points from their political leaders our fellow Michiganders are the ones feeling the pain and trying to figure out what they're going to do to keep the lights on and feed their families.
A popular Grand Rapids Bar is also fed up with the government shutdown and didn't hold back with how they truly feel.
Bob's Bar posted this message to their Facebook page:
As most Americans, we at Bob's Bar, can attest to being fed up with the partisan politics shutting down the government.
In order to ease the pain on all of us, we will be implementing a Government Shut Down Happy Hour Monday through Friday from Noon to 4pm, then our regular Happy Hour kicks in from 4-6pm.
Drinks will be discounted 25% across the board until the Government opens back up.
Hopefully, it won't be long until we see results in Washington and until then we'll celebrate some savings with our clientele.
Peace Bob.

The longest government shutdown in United States history started back in December 2018 and went on for nearly five weeks.
Hopefully, this shutdown ends sooner, but until then, you can find me at Bob's Bar with a tall Miller Lite and an order of pierogies.
