Michigan Couple’s Anniversary Turns Into $2M Lottery Win
Some couples go out for a fancy dinner or maybe exchange gifts for their anniversary. One Oakland County couple? They added “millionaires” to their relationship status.
According to the Michigan Lottery, a sweet Michigan couple celebrated their anniversary with a tradition they both enjoy: scratching off lottery tickets.
This time, they picked a Diamonds & Gold ticket—and their lives changed in an instant.
“We scratched this ticket off together on our wedding anniversary,” the wife, 44, said in a statement. “My husband noticed the $2 million prize first. He thought something wasn’t right, so we took it to the store to scan it.”

Still in disbelief, they even had a friend scan it using the Michigan Lottery app, you know: just to be sure. And sure enough, the $2 million prize popped up on the screen. They had really won the best anniversary gift of all time.
“I started shaking and was in total shock,” the wife told the Michigan Lottery, “It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary.”
The lucky wife, who chose to remain anonymous, opted for a one-time lump sum payment of $1.3 million. With her winnings, she says she plans to buy a house, invest, and set aside money for her children’s college education. (Pretty smart way to play if you ask me!)
How Rare Is a $2M Scratch-Off Win?
While the odds of winning a massive jackpot are astronomical (1 in 290 million for Mega Millions) it only takes one ticket to beat those odds and change your life forever. And for this couple, it happened on the most meaningful day of the year.
Talk about a sign from the universe that you were meant to be.
