Since you were a kid, chocolate has been there for you. You might have gotten rainbow fingers from eating too many M&Ms, or you've sat around the bonfire and put that crucial slab of brown goodness between your marshmallow and graham cracker. I've even visited Hershey, PA, and witnessed the birthplace of America's most beloved chocolate while riding a chocolate-inspired rollercoaster. These are strange times we live in.

Mackinac Island, one of Michigan's premier travel destinations, is known for its fudge. But what if I told you there was a brand of chocolate that few in Lower Michigan have seen, but everyone in the Upper Peninsula loves? Let me put you on some of the best dang (and hardest to get) chocolate this side of Lake Michigan.

Yoopers Are A Proud Bunch

Yoopers are a tough, unique bunch. When you have to put up with hundreds of inches of snow every winter, it's no wonder that Yoopers band together to support each other and have a strong sense of pride for where they live. The UP is not for the weak. My buddy attended Northern Michigan University for four years, and his car is full of UP-related bumper stickers, letting everyone know he "Yoosta be a Yooper."

A Sweet Legacy Since 1906

Sayklly's Confectionery & Gifts, a former grocery store transformed into a confectionery, has proudly been based in Escanaba since its opening in 1906 and makes a special treat just for fellow Yoopers.

In honor of its strong U.P. heritage, Sayklly's began creating a chocolate bar called the "Yooper Bar" that not only features the Upper Peninsula on the bar but is so detailed that it also includes all the county lines. These bars are available in Milk, Dark Chocolate, or 72% Cocoa Dark.

What Makes The 'Yooper Bar' So Elusive

What makes these chocolate bars so hard to get is that they are only available in the Upper Peninsula. It is made in Escanaba and available pretty readily around the UP, but remains a UP-exclusive and has not crossed over the Mackinac Bridge. If you're a Troll like me, the only way to get this without making the trip up north is by ordering it online.

Even if you're not a huge chocolate person, this chocolate bar is practically a piece of art and is worth checking out to see it yourself.

Top Lesser-Known Attractions in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

While places like Mackinac Island and Pictured Rocks are great and definitely worth seeing, there are some other, less-popular spots in the U.P. that you should check out on your next trip up north.
