Everyone finds plenty of ways to complain about how bad the drivers on the road are. Isn't it convenient how someone else is always The Problem when a driver does something dumb on the road? But here's the thing. What if the drivers aren't fully to blame for all the dumb accidents that take place around here?
What if, instead, it is actually the roads themselves that are to blame? No, I don't mean the usual "Michigan roads" problems we usually face (potholes galore). I mean the design of the roads themselves, built to fail drivers from the start?

According to Michigan Auto Law, one of Michigan's leading auto-accident attorneys, 28.7% of all motor vehicles occurred at intersections in Michigan in 2022, while 29.2% of all fatal car crashes took place at intersections.
All that to say, intersections can be some of the most dangerous places for a driver to be. So it's not surprising that there are some intersections drivers choose to completely avoid if they're able to.
Grand Rapids' Worst Intersections
To find out which intersections Grand Rapids drivers choose to avoid like the plague, I went over to the r/grandrapids subreddit to see what other drivers had to say. The post got 61 upvotes and 142 comments.
To start the conversation, I started with my least favorite intersection: Coit & Michigan, right across the street from Helen Devos Children's Hospital. That diagonal turn onto Coit from such a populated road that is also a steep hill is just not my cup of tea.
