We recently told you it's likely West Michigan will see a white Christmas in 2022, as the National Weather Services predicts colder than average temperatures and snowfall above normal for the week leading up to the holiday - and NWS has just issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of West Michigan this weekend, Dec. 16-18, 2022.

According to NWS,

Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are forecast tonight through Saturday near to west of a line from Allegan to Cadillac. Lighter snow accumulations are forecast further inland. Hazardous travel conditions will develop near to mainly west of US-131 late tonight through Saturday.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Parts of West Michigan

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for the counties of Kent, Van Buren, Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan.

For Kent and Van Buren Counties, the advisory goes into effect Friday, Dec. 16 at 1p.m. and runs through Sunday, Dec. 18 at 1a.m. NWS says an increase in snow intensity is expected midday Friday which will continue through the afternoon and evening. Additional lake effect snow is expected tonight, Saturday and Saturday night. Given the nature of lake effect snow not everyone will see the same snowfall, but where the snow bands persist, 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible.

For Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan counties the advisory is already in effect and runs through 1a.m. Sunday. Again, snow intensity is expected to increase this afternoon and continue through Saturday night; 4 to 7 inches of snow are possible by Sunday morning.

NWS says to plan on slippery road conditions and to slow down and use caution when driving. Hazardous conditions could effect the evening and morning commute.
