The American Bald Eagle
The bald eagle didn’t become America’s national bird overnight. The eagle came into play in 1782, when the Continental Congress needed an image for the Great Seal of the United States. The seal was used on official documents, money, and other important items.
Over the years, the bald eagle has become deeply associated with American identity and patriotism. While the eagle had long been considered the unofficial national bird, it wasn't until recently that Congress passed a bill officially designating it as such, which President Biden signed into law.

Bald eagles are known for their impressive hunting and scavenging skills. I’ve seen eagles drag deer carcasses, swoop down for rabbits, and fish in the same lakes I’ve fished.
