We're nearing the end of the baseball season, and it has been a wild one. The Detroit Tigers have continued their hot streak, which began at the end of the 2024 season, and have maintained one of the best records in the MLB since the start of the season. The Tigers had the best record going into the All-Star Break, and are currently 9.5 games ahead of the Royals in the AL Central.

Currently, the best record in the MLB belongs to the Milwaukee Brewers, with an 86-55 record, but that record isn't the most impressive in professional baseball. Instead, that honor belongs to our very own West Michigan Whitecaps, which just became the first team in all of baseball to reach 90 wins.

The Whitecaps' Crazy Turnaround Season

The West Michigan Whitecaps are having a statistically improbable season. Last year's team was barely above .500, finishing with a 68-63 record and failing to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

To say this season is an improvement from last year is an understatement, with the Whitecaps currently 90-38 and on pace to finish the season with a +.700 win record. The team was so far ahead of the rest of its league that it earned a playoff spot back in June.

But the real mind-boggling statistic is just how many runs the team has scored this season, with a franchise-record 21 double-digit scoring games this season and a run differential of +289. The team had 90 HRs last year, while this team has 125. This is video game-level dominance, with the next best team, the Lake County Captains, at +69 and with a record of 73-38. That's 17.5 games back.

The team had its franchise-best blowout win in a 16-0 shutout against the Lansing Lugnuts on August 24th, and tied its highest single-game run record of 21 in a game on June 28th.

The work that manager Tony Cappuccilli has done in his second season with a completely new group of coaches is incredible. This, coupled with the fact that it's the first season in the newly renovated stadium, is positioning this 2025 season as one to remember.

Every Tigers Player Who Has Played On The Whitecaps

The Tigers have pulled off a miracle comeback of a season to make it into the playoffs. The West Michigan Whitecaps is an affiliate of the Tigers, so how many players on the Tigers used to play on the Whitecaps? Turns over half the team has been on the Whitecaps, with 15 players on the current Tigers having spent time here in West Michigan.
