Mochinut Continues to Expand in Michigan

Mochinut began in southern California in 2020. Since then, it's expanded to more than 180 locations across the country. There are five Mochinut donut shops currently in Michigan - with more on the way!

Have you ever had a mochi donut? They're a a fusion of Japanese and American donuts that originated in Hawaii in the early 90s. Mochi donuts have the unusual shape of eight connected dough balls.

The company says what sets their donuts apart is a distinctive texture that is "a delightful combination of a light, crispy exterior that gives way to a wonderfully soft, chewy interior." Choose from a variety of flavors like strawberry, yuzu, coffee, churro, pistachio, nutella, and mango.

At Mochinut you'll also find Korean hot dogs, which are similar to American corn dogs, but made with rice flour batter. There's tons of options as well! Get them stuffed with cheese or topped with hot Cheetos, ramen, potatoes, and more.

For beverages, enjoy bubble teas like classic milk tea, brown sugar, ube, and matcha. You get to pick your sweetness level and add toppings like tapioca pearls, grass jelly or fruit jellies.

Some spots offer ice cream as well.

The First Mochinut Donut Shop Set to Open in Grand Rapids

So when do we get to experience all this yumminess in Grand Rapids?

Well, last year Nguyen Tran opened a new Mochinut location in Kalamazoo. He's now expanding with a new shop in Grand Rapids! Mochinut is set to hold its soft opening a April 18 to 20. The official grand opening is April 25 to 27.

Mochinut Grand Rapids is located at 2927 28th St. SE, next to Uptown Cheapskate..
