According to the Detroit News, 19-year-old Joshua Lowe was sentenced in a federal court in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for making a bomb threat to a Carnival Cruise that was carrying his girlfriend and her family.

Lowe emailed Carnival Cruise Lines in January 2024, saying, "Hey, I think someone might have a bomb on your sunrise cruise ship." The FBI was able to trace the email address back to Lowe.

When questioned by investigators on why he made the bomb threat, Lowe said that he was mad at his girlfriend's family for going on a cruise without him, so he could stay behind and babysit their family pets.

Lowe was sentenced to eight months in prison, but no word on if he has to pay any restitution to Carnival Cruise for having to search over 1000 rooms, call the U.S. Coast Guard, and Jamaican authorities.

There is also no word if Lowe's girlfriend broke up with him as a result of the fake bomb threat that diverted the cruise to an unscheduled stop in Jamaica.
