Whether it be from the trunk of a car or going door-to-door, most kids around here are getting lots of candy (unlike Charlie). So, how much candy are kids in Michigan receiving and where does Michigan rank in terms of Halloween spirit?

Candy Sales Around Halloween

The holidays are the biggest time for candy sales with Halloween leading the charge. In 2024, the National Retail Federation estimates that sales of candy are estimated to hit $3.5 billion. Yeesh.

Michiganders will add to that total through their love for Starburst, Candy Corn, and Butterfingers, which are Michigan's top three candies according to Candy Store. Those three candies alone total over 300,000 sales on their site. Overall, M&Ms are the country's top candy, surpassing Reese's Cups.

Where Michigan Ranks In Holiday Spirit

Coupon Birds recently conducted a study of their own using over 1,000 Google search terms, finding which areas go all out for Halloween. Michigan ranked 8th highest in states that decorate and Detroit ranked 11th among cities that hand out the most candy.
