When Grand Rapids residents reflect on the restaurants they miss most, a few familiar names always come up—and one of them is about to make a one-night-only comeback!

The Rise and Fall of Jonny B’z

Remember Jonny B'z?

The hot dog and burger joint first opened in 2010 at 638 Wealthy St. A few years later, it moved down the street to a larger location at 701 Wealthy St. SE.

Then, in 2019, Jonny B'z was no more. The eatery shuttered and reopened as Royal's, serving some of the same favorites, but expanding the menu with breakfast and other comfort food classics. The diner later transitioned to a pizza joint and sports bar... before finally closing for good in 2022. Eventually an-all day breakfast joint based Lansing, Good Truckin' Diner, opened up at the space.

But if it's those original Jonny B'z dogs you're craving, get excited! Last year we told you that a different shuttered restaurant, Wikiwiki Poke Shop, was returning with pop-up events. Well, the owner, Keith Allard is now behind a special dinner that will bring back Jonny B'z!

In a recent Facebook post, Allard shared that after meeting the original owner of Jonny B’z—and seeing a meme that highlighted just how much the restaurant is missed—plans for a special pop-up started to take shape.

Mark your calendars: Jonny B’z is making its return on June 25.

Get ready for a one-night return of the beloved hot dog joint June 25!  Allard says you'll be able to enjoy classic Jonny B'z favorites plus new menu items inspired by the original.
