These Have Been Crowned the Best Michigan Gas Station Restaurants

When you picture gas station food, you might think of stale sandwiches and overcooked hot dogs - well, these Michigan joints are offering up WAY more than that! Two Michigan eateries have been ranked among the 31 best gas station restaurants in the nation.

Foodie publication Lovefood.com sought out the top gas station restaurants serving up "tasty and innovative cuisine". They made their selections based on reviews, awards, and the experiences of their team.

One of the Michigan gas stations restaurants to make Lovefood's list is Mr. Kabob in Berkley.

The Gulli family opened Mr. Kabob opened at a Sunoco gas station at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway in 2003. Since then it's expanded to four additional locations.

On the menu you'll find Mediterranean food like gourmet pita wraps, shawarma, falafel, salads, hummus - and of course, kabobs, made with a variety of marinated meats.

Another restaurant to make the cut is Detroit 75 Kitchen.

Technically it's not a restaurant INSIDE a gas station, but it is a food truck that's parked right near one, so folks can fill up on yummy food while they fill up their cars. In 2014 brothers Mike and Ahmad Nassar opened Detroit 75 Kitchen at their family's truck stop.

The menu includes sandwiches like cheesesteaks and shrimp po'boys. You can also enjoy chicken shawarma wraps, fish and chips, chicken tenders, salads, wings and more.

It's Detroit 75's Russel St. Veggie Sandwich with garlic cilantro fries, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onions and peppers, mushrooms, provolone cheese, roasted jalapeno ketchup, roasted tomatillo salsa, and garlic cilantro aioli.

There's another Detroit 57 Kitchen in Troy, Mich., in which the brothers transformed a vacant Sears Auto Center in a  restaurant. The Nassar brothers most recently creatively transformed a vacant Sears Auto Center into a Detroit 75 Kitchen in Troy, Michigan.
