If you are planning on attending the Trump rally at Van Andel Thursday there will be some street closures you need to be aware of.

According to WZZM, with the prez coming to Grand Rapids, this won't just affect the people attending the rally but the people who also travel downtown and the impact the street closures will have.

The street to look out for directly around Van Andel Arena are 130 Fulton St. West will be closed beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Here are a list of streets that will be closed until 8:30 p.m.:

  • Fulton Street West from Ottawa to Ionia
  • Oakes Street SW from Ottawa to Ionia
  • Ottawa Avenue SW from Fulton to Oakes
  • Weston Street SW west of Ionia

If you have plans of using the Area 2 lot on Oakes Street SW and Area 3 lot on Ionia Avenue SW, think again because both will be shut down at midnight Wednesday through midnight Thursday. If you have an access card to these lots you will have to access the Louis Campau ramp on Monroe Avenue NW and McConnell Ionia lot on McConnell Street SW those two days.

Here is an updated list for metered parking that will be off limits:

  • Lot at Fulton Street SW and Ionia
  • Oakes Street SW between Grandville and Market
  • Ottawa Avenue NW between Oakes and Fulton
  • Weston Street SW west of Ionia
  • Weston Street SW between Ottawa and Grandville

There will be a slew of officers directing traffic due to road closures and a more than usual amount of motorists and pedestrians. Downtown travelers can expect heavy traffic and delays.

The rally for Trump will be March 28 at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena. Doors will open for the event at 4 p.m. There is no charge to attend but you do have to register to get in and you can do so right here.
