Griffins fans unfazed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer discouraging people to go to places where there are large groups of people and attended Wednesday nights game.

According to WOOD, at a press conference Governor Whitmer said, "we're going to have to make some tough choices in the coming days and weeks. The Department of Health and Human Services is encouraging everyone to avoid large gatherings of 100 people or more."

Just hours after the Whitmer's speech, it was game on as the puck dropped at Van Andel Arena.

Hockey fan Karla Clouse said, "I don't think is a big deal, I think it's way blown out of proportion."

Many others attending the game said similar things, but they are not scientists.

The president of the Griffins, Tim Gorsema said, "every hour it feels like there'a a new piece of information. Safety of our players, safety of our hockey staff, our front office staff and most importantly our fans is paramount to any inconvenience we would have."

Like the NBA and the NCAA college basketball tournament, Gortsema mentioned it is possible that the Griffins may play games with no one in the stands but it is a last resort decision and will be made when the time comes.

So far the brass at Van Andel Arena have no plans on changes regarding the Griffins upcoming schedule but time will tell.

So far West Michigan has not reported any confirmed cases of the coronavirus but health officials are expecting the virus to reach the area soon.
