The undead took over a northeast Grand Rapids neighborhood this weekend.

Crews were shooting scenes for the new independent film, "Beyond the Dark." The horror film is being directed by 2001 Northview High School graduates Matthew Grzeskak and Ross Scharphorn, who have returned from Los Angeles. The childhood friends previously filmed 21 films together.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, reported more than 200 actors from across the country were involved in the fast-moving zombie film, including some from West Michigan.

Crews filmed scenes on Conrad Street NE between Coit Avenue and Riverside Drive Saturday and continued their shoot Sunday afternoon at Wabash Court NE south of Coit Avenue and east of Jupiter Avenue. Other scenes will be shot in Wyoming, Rockford, Cedar Springs and Sand Lake.

"Beyond the Dark" will make its big screen debut at Celebration Cinema North in mid-October, with additional daily showings through Halloween at Celebration Cinema Woodland in Kentwood.
