If you've been around Grand Rapids long enough you shouldn't be surprised to see Polish food on the menu, but we won't count it against you if you weren't expecting pizza with kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Balinski's Polish-American restaurant opened on June 8, 2017 in Comstock Park. The restaurant's website explains that it was inspired by Marilyn Dawn Balinski a "mother, grandma, great-grandma and dear friend to many. She cooked, catered and baked for most of her life and handed down recipes to her kids and grandchildren."

You'll find golabki, potato pancakes, pierogi, kielbasa, paczki and other standbys on the menu, but there are also some surprises. Probably none of those surprises are bigger than the Balinski Pizza.

The Balinski Pizza has mozzarella and asiago cheese, wild mushrooms, but the stars of the show are kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Ashley an employee at Balinski's tells us that people like the pizza, "it's different, yet very flavorful."

Different? Yes.

Flavorful? I bet it is.

A good combination? We'll need to try it ourselves to find out.
